TD 124 Idler wheel carrier sintered bushing

THORENS TD 124 IDLER WHEEL CARRIER SINTERED BUSHING

Audiosilente is delighted to introduce the new bushing for the Thorens TD 124 idler-wheel carrier.

For sale:

1 CNC machined sintered bronze bushing with a tolerance of +0.01 mm

1 aluminum punch for extracting the old bushing.

Our new bushing matches the idler-wheel support shaft perfectly, securing to the chassis the swinging arm carrying the idler-wheel. Say goodbye to wobbly idler-wheel carriers with our new high precision chassis bushing! The excessive tolerances of the original bushing (+0.05 +0.08 mm) cause the idler-wheel to tilt towards the stepped pulley, preventing the speed steps from engaging correctly. A misalignment of the idler-wheel relative to the stepped pulley and platter can also cause noise and wear of the rotating parts in the long run. Replacing this component requires specialized skills and the correct tools.

First, remove the idler-wheel carrier and any sensitive moving parts (motor, stepped pulley). To extract the bushing, apply heat from underneath the chassis only to the bushing area using a hairdryer or similar appliance if no dedicated tools are available and use a hammer to tap the punch and work the bushing out slowly. The removal process may take a long time when oxidation is present. It is important to proceed gradually, avoiding heat to surrounding components. Also overheating the frame must be avoided to prevent damage to the paintwork.

Use caution during the heating process to prevent damage to the paintwork. The new bushing is designed for a press fit with light pressure and needs to secured with adhesive (ideally with threadlocker, not supplied). This prevents the inner bore from shrink-fitting.
